One of the things I love about city life is you never know where you'll find inspiration. My wife and I were coming out of our neighbourhood video store when this gentleman passed us spilling an endless bag of stale microwaveable popcorn and spurting out death threats to whomever owes him money. What made it funnier is we were seeing spilled popcorn trails all the way home. I guess he's like a modern day drunk asshole Hansel.

My buddy Kevin Parry directed this music video with Carla Veldman and myself doing animation and design work, it was a load of fun working on it and coming up with scenarios was pretty funny. I'm pretty sure giant robot apocalypse is where we're headed too, enjoy!

So I have been taking some serious thought toward my fourth year film. I have had an idea for quite some time as to what key elements i want to have in there and a few weeks ago a came up with a rough plot outline and did some backup research. So finally i decided to do a concept piece to get a feel for the mood and tone of the film. I know i still have a year before i have to do it, but the sooner the better

Cloverfield

Upon reading numerous negative blogs and critiques on Cloverfield, I was determined to write a rebuttal revealing some of its perhaps deeper issues and plot strengths that were missed by some people. Elements that made this film one of the strongest monster films (although to call it a monster film is hardly telling of its emotional and cinematic caliber) I have ever seen, also it took risks and tried something new. There is definitely praise to be given for not simply adhering to certain predetermined criteria to please the masses. I'm excited to see the film industry showing even more guts in the future of mainstream cinema. Anyways, just as I was about to write on the subject, I came across a review I feel was very accurate and summed up my opinions on the film, heres the link:

this is inspired from my visit to the ROM last week, i saw a ton of Japanese artifacts and among them were ancient samurai gear. i got really into it and made up this character who works for satan or something, anyhow, check it out, ill be dropping off some sketches soon, not everything can be cleaned and purtied up.

I had this idea two nights ago where soldiers in the middle east were suddenly attacked by something of than terrorists, a la the desert scene in this summers Transformers flick. so rather than dismissing the idea, i decided to rubs some twigs together and make it happen. summers coming to an end and so this last week of freedom is the perfect time to bone up on some drawing skills. looking forward to the start of the new year tho.
